The open systems interconnection (OSI) model is a conceptual model created by the International Organization for Standardization which enables diverse communication systems to communicate using standard protocols. It is commomny compared to TCP/IP mode which is a functional model designed to solve specific communication problems, and is based on specific, standard protocols. OSI is a generic, protocol-independent model intended to describe all forms of network communication.
